I love the world, its complexities and paradoxes.  I must acknowledge, however, that it has lots of flaws–or at least what we, as inhabitants of the world, can see as flaws from our very limited and ignorant point of view.

One of these flaws is that horrible people do exist in the world.  Nothing new, you may say. Yes.  And I am struggling with this, asking myself how I can deal with them, what is the right thing to do. Because horrible people exist not only in Rwanda or elsewhere cutting off innocent people’s limbs, or in a gendarmerie in Southeast Asia or Latin America torturing dissidents.  Horrible people are closer than we dare think: sitting in the office down the hall, walking into a movie theatre, driving on the opposite lane.
